Florida Teen Accused of Stabbing a Cheerleader 114 Times
June 1, 2021
A Florida teen will be tried as an adult after allegedly killing 13-year-old cheerleader Tristyn Bailey in the Jacksonville suburb of St. Johns. (NBC News)
The Florida teen was originally booked for second-degree murder, but after seeing the severity of the crime, the court decided to charge him for first-degree murder as an adult. Tristyn was found dead in a wooded area on May 9 with 114 stab wounds, 49 appearing as defensive wounds to the girl’s hands, arms, and head as she fought off her attacker.
If you don’t know anything about crimes or the law, you’re probably wondering what’s the difference between first-degree and second-degree murder. First-degree murder requires that a person planned and intentionally carried out the killing. They also call it premeditated murder. Second-degree murder requires that the killing was either intentional or reckless and occured in the spur of the moment. (Chester County Criminal Lawyer)
Prior to the murder, the suspect told friends that he “intended to kill someone,” and the suspect posted a selfie to social media saying, “Hey guys has inybody seen Tristyn lately.” The picture provided police with enough evidence to suggest that Tristyn’s murder was premeditated. The murder weapon was found at a pond near the victim’s body and found in the victim’s head. The tip of the blade was broken off inside her head.
Evidence is coming available to the public and many think that the teen will be charged after hearing all of it. (nypost)
