California Entering One of the Worst Droughts in Recent Memory

California is experiencing one of the worst droughts in recent memory. Around 97.5 percent of the state is experiencing a drought. (nbclos) This couldn’t have came at a worst time, after covid, millions unemployed, and an all-around rough 2020.

California has been notorious for natural disasters ranging from fires to landslides and especially droughts. Because of how chaotic 2021 has been, the droughts happening in California have flown under the radar. But they should know around 87.95 percent of the state is in severe drought and 52.86 percent of the state is in extreme drought. (nbclos)

California usually has droughts around this time of the year, but this year is significantly worse compared to 2020. In 2020, only 41 percent of the state was in a drought compared to this year’s 97 percent. California is not the only state experiencing droughts; most of the mid west is experiencing what meteorologist are calling a megadrought.

Much of California has received less than half of average snow and rainfall since October. Since October of 2019, California has been experiencing the second driest drought to record. (calmatters)
