SC Counties Can Apply for Grocery Help This Week

According to Live 5 News, South Carolina residents who lost property or jobs due to the Hurricane Joaquin are eligible for food assistance.

The South Carolina Department of Social Service (DSS) has reported that counties eligible to receive Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief  and Emergency Assistance Act.

People living in those 20 counties who lost their property or job can apply for a debit card that can you be used to buy food at grocery stores.  Applicants must show they went through tragic losses in the disaster through the application process in order to receive assistance.

According to Live 5 News, sign-ups started last week in seven counties. Residents of Lexington, Richland, Sumter and Dorchester counties can apply this Monday through Friday. Residents in Florence, Horry, Berkeley and Charleston counties can apply next week.
