Shailene Woodley, known for her role as “Tris” in the Divergent series, has recently been arrested for trespassing in North Dakota.

Woodley was peacefully protesting at a pipeline construction site in Sioux County, North Dakota. The Standing Rock Sioux, the protesting group Woodley was with during her arrest, has been protesting construction of the $3.8 billion pipeline which could taint water supply and intrude on sacred tribal burial sites. Protest against the destruction have been going on for months.

Woodley was arrested with 26 other protesters, and she now could face 60 days in jail and $3,000 in fines if convicted for criminal trespassing. The court day is scheduled for October 24th.

During the peaceful protest, Shailene was Facebook live streaming the protest. It lasted 2 hours before riot police arrived on scene. “I was walking back to my RV — which is right there — so that we can go back to camp peacefully, and they grabbed me by my jacket and said that I was not allowed to continue, they had giant guns and batons and zip-ties and they’re not letting me go,” Woodley said to the Facebook live stream. Her mother was the one recording her.

Shailene Woodley continues to stand up for what she believes in which is a lesson we should all learn from her.
