Every big name in pop culture is hailing Lil Wayne (Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) this week after he released his fifth part of his series of albums titled Tha Carter. Chance the Rapper, Lebron James, and Kanye West all praised him on finally releasing the album after Tha Carter IV was released in 2011. The premier of the album series came out in 2004, and it was his fourth studio album. It quickly skyrocketed to No.  5 on the Billboard 200 that year, but it hasn’t only gone up from there for the rapper.

The album took five years to make due to Lil Wayne having to use old songs and revamp them to make them more modern. The hiatus became a struggle for Weezy as he had a strong fall out with Bryan “Birdman” Williams. Lil Wayne subtweeted many times during his break about the situation, including the tweet “I am a prisoner and so is my creativity.”

Despite these struggles to produce the album, it reached No. 1 on Apple Music on September 30, 2018. Its first week projections have already been released, with $165-$180k in album sales alone. It’s also expected to move 400-525k units.  This places it at No. 3 this year, behind Drake (732k) and Travis Scott (537k). Tha Carter IV moved 964k units in its first week, but it was accompanied with many months of promotion and singles. Wayne treated his fans with this surprise album that he released on his birthday.

The album includes many different songs such as: “Famous” and “Demon.” “Famous” is a sentimental rap ballad that was made four years ago and then revamped before the album was released. However, the beat for “Demon” was made just two weeks ago!

No matter the struggle or how long it took to get the album out, one thing is for sure. The hip hop world is definitely thankful for this release and fans are certainly looking forward to more from Lil Wayne.
