Daniel Correa Freitas, 24, was a Brazilian soccer player on the Sao Paulo team. On October 27, 2018, his body was found in the Southern part of Sao Jose dos Pinhais, an area known for criminals to dump bodies.

The police reported that the cause of death is not officially known, but a city guard reports that Freitas was a victim of torture. The city guard continued to say that “From the appearance of the body, it was a very violent situation…The man had two deep cuts on his neck, his head was nearly beheaded, and his genitals were severed” (Banda B).

A tweet from Freita’s Sao Paulo Football Team says, “The Sao Paulo football club deeply regrets the death of midfielder Daniel Correa Freitas; The club sympathizes and pays condolences to the athlete’s family.”
