Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress, has been ordered by the court to pay for Trump’s legal fees, around $293,000, after her defamation suit against him fell through. According to BBC News, this is about 75 percent of his fees.

Originally, President Trump’s lawyers wanted Daniels to pay nearly $389,000 in legal fees, but the court claimed this was excessive and cut it down by 25 percent. The court then said she had to pay another $1,000 in sanctions for filing a “meritless” case (NY Times).

Charles J. Harder, Trump’s attorney, said, “The court’s order, along with the court’s prior order dismissing Stormy Daniels’ defamation case against the President, together constitute a total victory for the President, and a total defeat for Stormy Daniels in this case” (BBC News).

The case originally rose up when Daniels claimed she was harassed by a man trying to keep her quiet about her affair with the President. Trump responded with a tweet saying, “A sketch years later about a non-existent man. A total con job, playing the Fake News Media for Fools (but they know it)!” (Independent).

Daniels sued him for his tweet, claiming it was defamatory, but the court dismissed it and said he was exercising his First Amendment rights. The court said the tweet was a “hyperbolic statement.” After winning the initial case, Trump tweeted, saying they could, “go after Horseface and her 3rd rate lawyer” (BBC News).

Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniels’ lawyer, said, “Harder and Trump deserve each other because they are both dishonest. They received less than one half what they asked for because the request was gross and excessive” (Independent).
