Here at Ashley Ridge, our librarians have put together a fun, simple activity to get English students excited to read young adult (YA) books. It’s called…Speed Dating!

In the media center, from Wednesday 3/6 to Monday 3/11, English students were told to pick any table with books scattered on them. A timer was set for two minutes. In that time frame, students examined the books, wrote down what they liked, what they didn’t like, and gave it a rating. When the timer went off, students stood up and moved to a different table when they saw a book cover that intrigued them.

AR’s librarians wanted to make an activity that gave students a chance to “fall in love…with a book.” The upcoming unit in English classes is all about YA books and how they impact the generation we live in. They are works of literature written directly for teenagers to read, connect to, and share. YA books contain real-world problems that teens can relate to.

There are multiple genres, such as, romance, realistic fiction, fantasy, crime, etc.

Take this quiz and find out what YA book you should read next! All The Tests
