We’ve all been there: you think you’ve found the one you’re going to spend the rest of your life with and raise a family with. You’re head over heels in love and bam! they hit you with the breakup text. What do you do when your future crumbles? How do you get over a breakup?

It’s crucial to realize is there’s no time limit for how long it takes to get over someone. Every situation is different and a mending heart should never be rushed. Whether it’s four weeks or six months, you need time.

For many people, texting their significant other was a daily activity, so when the texts suddenly stop, it can make someone feel incredibly lonely. Surround yourself with friends and participate in activities you otherwise wouldn’t have done in the past. Being around those you love can help fill your extra time.

Take the time to try new things. If you always wanted to try pottery, try pottery. Find new things you can invest your time into and enjoy doing. It’s your life and it shouldn’t be controlled by an ex.

Whatever you do, do not text your ex. Whether you want closure or just miss them, texting them is never a good idea. If they wanted to be around you, they wouldn’t have broken up with you in the first place. Staying friends with someone you dedicated so much time with likely won’t work, so save yourself the trouble and distance yourself for your own well-being.

Most importantly, remember that you are enough. No one can determine your worth, only you can. Just because one relationship didn’t work out doesn’t mean you’re the problem or you’re not worth anything. Remember who you are and embrace your every quirk. You are perfect just the way you are.
