Fans all around the globe are begging for more after the 17-year-old star Billie Eilish released her new song “everything i wanted.” On Nov. 13, 2019, people sat excitedly, gazing at their phones and anticipating the song’s release at 4 P.M. Pacific Time.

It was the first new single since her release of her album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” in March, making people much more thrilled. Keeping up the tradition, Finneas O’Connell, her older brother, helped co-write and produce the chilling single. Fans were not let down when they initially heard her distinctive low vocals and heartbreaking lyrics.

The week before her song was sent out on all music listening platforms, Eilish teased the single on her Instagram, where she has a following count of 43.5 million people, saying in an ecstatic all-caps, “BUUUUUUUT YOU GET A NEW SONG NEXT WEEK SOOOOOOOOOOOOO.” The day before the song was released to the public, Eilish posted a short clip of the last few seconds of the song, sending everyone into an enthusiastic frenzy.

The cover of the single depicts an abstract painting of the Golden Gate Bridge, tying into the meaningful lyrics and plot that she is trying to convey. At the beginning of the song, she sings, “thought i could fly / so i stepped off the golden / nobody cried / nobody even noticed.”

Her new single explains a dream that Eilish once had. In the nightmare, she committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge and no one, not even her close friends, family or fans, cared about her death. They all admitted to the public that they never really liked her.

Then, she goes into deeper meaning when she goes on to sing about how her brother, Finneas O’Connell, is always there to comfort her when she wakes up.

“Pretty much that whole song is about me and Finneas’s relationship as siblings. But it’s kinda like my brother is my best friend, and I have these dreams and these things happen and no matter what he’s gonna always be there for me and it’s the same the other way around,” Billie Eilish stated, explaining to curious fans in an interview the true meaning of the lyrics.

Singing about going to sleep is not an uncommon theme in the teen star’s music. Like in many of her other songs, such as “bury a friend” and “listen before i go,” “everything i wanted” talks about Eilish’s terrible sleep paralysis and night terrors.

In the background of the song, there is a melodious piano, a pumping bass and multiple kinds of beats, each played by her brother, Finneas, which adds immensely to the mood the song makes the listeners feel. The two siblings spend a lot of time together, figuring out what lines to use and how everything should fit together, so they can both identify with the words being sung. The beating of the bass and Eilish’s deep vocals makes our heart break with each line she sings.

In a video sponsored by Beats called “Billie Eilish | Beats by Dre | The Making of “everything i wanted,'” it shows the siblings in a small room, working to put all the words and music together. Finneas is shown playing the piano and creating the background noises while Billie cries, “I love that!” Not only does it show their musical talent, it displays how Billie was speaking the truth in her single: Finneas O’Connell and Billie Eilish are very close and they will always be there for each other.

The 17-year-old star originally wrote the single in November of 2018 and called it “nightmare,” which eventually evolved into the single listeners know today. After months of hard work, “everything i wanted” was released and became an immediate hit. It soared to the top of multiple song charts, such as Apple Music and Genius.

Overall, Billie Eilish has written another extremely successful and beautiful song for everyone all over the world to enjoy. It’s worth a rate of a 9/10 since the lyrics are so expressive and her vocals were gorgeous once again.

Finneas O’Connell and Billie Eilish spend so much of their life with each other producing fascinating music. The message conveyed will stick with fans for a long time and will make them ponder on the meaning of some things present in their life. It’s worth taking four minutes to listen to “everything i wanted.”
