Dorchester District 2 Extends Mandatory eLearning

Xavier Proctor-Floyd, Editor

Dorchester district 2 has officially extended the mandatory eLearning instruction for all students until January 29th. The original plan was for students to go back to the hybrid learning model after Jan. 18, but due to rising COVID-19 cases following the holidays, students will endure two more weeks of eLearning.

Currently there are around 28 positive teacher cases and 40 positive student cases in Dorchester District 2. Ashley Ridge has two positive teacher cases, four positive student cases and a total of 26 people currently quarantined due to COVID. (dd2)

Cases have reached an all-time high in South Carolina with total cases reaching around 389k and total deaths around 5,860.(covid) The traveling of the holiday is mostly responsible for the alarming increase of cases. Although there is a target date for students to go back to school, there is a high chance students may go back on a different date depending on the cases.
