NBA All-Star Selections Leave Some Fans Questioning

Xavier Proctor-Floyd, Editor

This year the NBA All-Star game will be a little different. With no fans being allowed to any of the All-Star festivities, the players were reluctant to even have an All-Star game this year. But the NBA managed to make it happen and have just released the All- Star Selections. As with any other year, fans are angry about players who got selected, and even more angry about players who didn’t.

The West All-Stars starters are Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic, Lebron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Nikola Jokic; James is the team captain. The reserves include Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Anthony Davis, Rudy Gobert, Paul George, Chris Paul and Zion Williamson. (nytimes)

The Eastern All-Stars starters are Kyrie Irving, Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid; Durant is the team captain. The Eastern reserves include Jaylen Brown, James Harden, Zach Lavine, Ben Simmons, Julius Randle and Nikola Vucevic.

Many fans were surprised by the selection of Chris Paul over his teammate Devin Booker. Booker, who is averaging around 25 ppg, 4 ast, and 4 reb, has been one of the top shooting guards in the league this year. On the East side, fans were surprised by guard Trae Young and forward Domantas Sabonis not making the game. Fans were also confused by the selection of Luka Doncic starting over guard Damain Lillard. Lillard is having an MVP-type season while Doncic, who is playing very well right now, currently has his team at the 9th seed in the west.

The game, which is going to be played in Atlanta, will be very different due to absence of the fans, but with schedule changes such as the dunk contest occurring during halftime of the game, it will be interesting to see.
